Queen and Sober

Color pencil and black ink on Bristol Board.
6.35 cm x 8.89 cm (2.50 in. x 3.50 in.).
The Queen, a.k.a. the Evil Queen, step-mother to Snow White, with her jealousy and vanity is the essential driving force to the later’s classic story. While the Queen’s story arc has the simple moral lesson of “don’t be like that,” 21st century eyes, if she had not overreached, she could have dominated the land indefinitely.

With this unprompted collector card size sketch, I experimented with utilizing black ink for the black parts of her costume while avoiding typical cartoon outlines. Tonal purple pencil defines the rest of her royal visage.
