Unsupervised

Last week’s outing to Long Beach Comic Con went super well.

The last time I was at a LBCC, was about nine years ago sharing space in Juan Ortiz’s Silver Comics booth.  Since then, my basic criteria for a good showing at a comic convention is how busy I am with commissions. Because if I’m not drawing at a con, then what am I supposed to do? Talk to people about super-heroes?

Here are three of last weekend’s commissions that are NOT super-heroes...

Mickey Mouse in were-wolf Halloween costume.
Snow White from Fables.
Sherlock from “Sherlock” sketch card.

All SPARC and No Bite

Glendale, CA, August 25, 2014 — Disney Consumer Products (DCP) transformed one of the ground level hallways on the Grand Central Creative Campus, GC3 for short, into the SPARC Gallery.

SPARC, which stands for Seek-Partner-Adapt-Risk-Create, is an initiative DCP has to involve and inspire their Cast-Members a.k.a. employees. One of the things SPARC does is bring in guest speakers in a TED Talks way.

For the inaugural show of the gallery, participating Cast-Members get the spotlight with samples of their personal artwork. Over one-hundred pieces are currently on display.

My entry in this exhibition is a nine-inch tall paper craft figure inspired by the self-caricature of artist and cartoonist Meredith McClaren from her scraps comic and blog. The wall mounted shelf is wrapped with a reproduction of the six-page layout of the six-inch version of the build-it-yourself figure.

Thanks to Meredith McClaren for allowing me to enter this in the show.

GC3 is a private Disney facility, which unfortunately means the gallery is inaccessible to the public without being a guest of a Disney Cast-Member.

Long Beach CC: Convention Sketches

Order Your Convention Sketches for Pick Up NOW — Yes, of course, I will be drawing custom convention sketches to order during the 2-day con. However, in advance of the event I am accepting a limited number of orders-for-pick-up from now up until Sun. Sep. 21, 2014.

If you will be attending Long Beach Comic Convention this year and would like to commission a sketch by me, then this may be the deal for you! For the super reasonable rate of $15 per-character, I will take your commission/order to make some original art. The specification are as follows: I will draw, ink and block in color with color-pencil on 9 in. x 12 in. Bristol board.

As previously stated, I will only be accepting limited number of orders as time permits, at up to 2 characters per-person. Then you can pay for and pick up your completed order at LBCC.

Pretty easy, eh? If you’re interested, please contact me via e-mail at bryanlmon@yahoo.com or check the “View my complete profile” on this blog.

If you miss the order window, don’t worry, I will be taking on commissions during the con.
