Snarfblatt

Here's a little project I've been working on and off and on for the past couple of months: re-sequencing the tracks of The Little Mermaid soundtrack in the order presented in the motion picture.

Why? - Because I'm just that way.

1. Fathoms Below
2. Main Titles
3. Fanfare
4. Daughters Of Triton
5. Flotsam And Jetsam
6. Part Of Your World
7. Fireworks
8. Jig
9. The Storm
10. Part Of Your World (Reprise)
11. Under The Sea
12. Sebastian And Triton (Final)
13. Destruction Of The Grotto
14. Poor Unfortunate Souls
15. Les Poissons
16. Bedtime
17. Tour Of The Kingdom
18. Kiss The Girl
19. Wedding Announcement
20. Eric To The Rescue
21. Happy Ending

Track 12 is from The Music Behind the Magic - The Little Mermaid, part of a four disc collection of demo and work recordings from Alan Menken and Howard Ashman's work on The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, and Aladdin.

To that I added various cover versions as bonus tracks.

  1. Isn't Under the Sea before the whole jig/storm and Part of your world reprise?

  2. ah ha! I was just looking into doing this myself! :)

Shouldn't Bedtime be before Tour of the Kingdom though?

  3. Although I viewed and reviewed my home video copies of the film with a stopwatch against the soundtrack on CD, there may have been an error in my transcription.

However, in both cases, my list is accurate.

    1) Ariel sings "Part of Your World" and at the very end she is distracted by "Fireworks" set off at the surface from Eric's ship. Ariel investigates discovering sailors dancing ("Jig"), gets smitten by Eric, and then "The Storm" rolls in. Ariel saves Eric. Leaving Eric on the beach, Ariel retreats back to the sea ("Part of Your World (reprise)").

  4. 2) Mute Ariel is taken in at Eric's palace. At the end of the first night, she prepares for sleep ("Bedtime"), hopeful about the next day when Eric will take her on a "Tour of the Kingdom". This day's activities concludes for the couple in the lagoon ("Kiss the Girl"). Ariel goes to bed, but Eric, looking out over the beach, spies a mysterious dark haired girl strolling along the shore singing.
